I am transitioning to mainly hand tools. Spent so many years in front of a computer it helps me feel more back to basics.

This video again, inspires me to keep going with my projects even when they seem to me a bit slow. Other creators only show their good steps and tell how easy and fast everything went, but obviously that's not true or how it works. It frustrated me, but you tell wise words, thank you a ton for that.
Like >practise for better results.< I mean it isn't a secret. I tend to forget the important. And my patience grows slow. This video again helps me much in my processes, so thank you very much.
Nice job! Top tip from Ben at Crimson Guitars: if you ever find yourself planing end grain, make sure to wet it a little. Leaves a really clean finish and it makes it super easy.
Totally right about the hand tools part, but a solid, heavy work bench with some form of parts holding really is indispensable.

I made a not too dissimilar box a couple of years ago and what I did was mitered the corners above and below the dovetails to hide the dados for the bottom and top. This is a different approach to a similar problem/goal and I love it, especially the addition to the lid. I used gummy cherry for the box and maple for the lid and bottom, and even had a similar contrast in the end! Love your work. You, Rex, Rob, Paul, and a few others got me through most of the pandemic.

Nice. As a bowmaker, who only uses one power tool (a bandsaw, to cut boards and blanks). I can testify to the continuing functionality of hand tools.

The handtool-usage regrettably was getting way out of fashion with the instant gratification-needs of the single-children-raised-by-single-moms generation – don't know what letter that generation has stuck to their *sses.
That assessment comes from my own experience teaching apprentices and mentoring youngsters in my crafts (boatbuilding, historically correct restoring, stagebuilding) over 30 years. It starts with them often not even having the patience to put a day of work into sharpening their own tools to spec once or twice a month.
One of the reasons I was an instant subbie to Pask's making-channel was the hand-tool-usage in the first clip I saw a couple years ago. Thank You for putting in the effort and sharing, Sir!

I love the color of that wood, it would have been such a shame if it had wound up on a fire, and the yoseki turns such a simple little box into something really gorgeous.

Really nice! I wonder though, how would the yosegi look if it was cut lengthwise down the middle and laid out with one piece rotated 180°?
