Bridging the Gap – Sustainable Agriculture

In today’s video, I explore how we can bridge the gap between farmers and consumers to explain the importance of sustainable agriculture. I interview farmers in Upstate New York, USA, and learn about their operations and perspective on sustainable agriculture.
I speak with Pete of Just a Few Acres Farm on YouTube at the Ithaca Farmers Market. Pete shares a little bit about his livestock farm and why he believes it is so important to learn about where and how your food is grown. Walter Schweitzer, President of Montana Farmers Union shares why he believes it is so important to support family farms. Finally, I speak with Thor Oeschner an organic farmer from Newfield New York. Thor shares about his operation and perspective on sustainable agriculture.

Thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed my first video back!

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am an 18-year-old 4th-generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate’s Ag – Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

  1. Very good! I was also glad to see an explanation in your shorts video. You must be feeling better! My only guess can be you contracted something on your trip overseas due to the timing of your absence, did you ignore the age old advice for travelers? "Don't drink the water". I know folks, it could be anything, I do have the right to guess, don't I?

  2. Great to see another Kate's Ag episode and important messages about sustainable practices to preserve the only environment we have to live in not just now but for generations to come. Nice to see a contribution from my neck of the woods too!

  3. A wise woman once said, “this is the life of a combine driver. It’s not as glamorous as you think 🤔 “

I’m happy your back at it and you got threw what you needed to. You make smart moves.

  4. What many people will not understand about sustainable agriculture is that the Dust Bowl in the 1930's helped to create The Great Depression. And as you are aware of the work I'm pursuing, if family farms like yours aren't supported then that could greatly hurt the U.S. both economically and with the food supply. I think people know how much beef has gone up and I know that in Montana that cattle ranches had to cull their herds because of drought.

  5. Hello babe so sorry to hear you have been having health problems I have been busy with other things I wish you all the best and a long wonderful life with good health and happiness bless you and much love❤❤❤😅😊

  6. Bonjour Kate, cela fait plaisir de vous revoir ,j'espère que tu vas bien enfin le printemps est là depuis 4 jours 24 degrés avant il a plus tous les jours et le vent du nord je te souhaite une bonne semaine Albert

  7. I agree with we need to keep our farm land in the hands of Americans. Family farms once lost can’t be replaced. My wife and I buy as much of our food from small family farms.
