Another interesting question is the effect of legalisation on potency. As you've mentioned, the drug has become more potent over time, but there's good reasons to believe that's due to its illegality. Does legalising make it less potent and thus less harmful?

This is f**** ridiculous anyone who goes to the hospital because of weed consumption didn't need to go. It's another way to lie with statistics. Just because someone ends up in the hospital doesn't mean they needed to be there. And every single study that found statistically significant adverse effects due to marijuana was done through a p-hacking technique called oversampling. They will check measurement and data against several different parameters of a person's life for all the subjects involved in the experiment all at once in order to guarantee they get statistically significant results of the sort they are looking for. That's how that headline a while back about chocolate helping people lose weight managed to get printed. They got so many people to eat a certain amount of chocolate everyday but they didn't just test their weight. They gathered data on their cholesterol, their weight, their blood pressure, their mood, cognitive performance, white blood cell count, ….etc., because they tested so many things it was basically guaranteed they would find what looked like a positive result somewhere in the data just based on probability. That's what they did with marijuana. It just so happens that when you do this you can expect three out of every ten parameters to show what looks like a statistically significant result when in reality is a false positive. That's because based on the 5 Sigma guideline for statistical significance you can expect 30% of all claims to be a false positive even with perfectly designed and perfectly executed experiments just because that's the math. That excludes human error or purposeful manipulation due to an agenda. It just so happens that a reproducibility starting was carried out for the subjects of psychology health and Medicine and it was found that 60% of claims could not be reproduced and were therefore false. Those are the subjects where studies of the effects of drugs fall.

I used to smoke weed to make bad TV more entertaining. But as a productive adult with people dependent on me I abstain because it really dulls mental acuity. My job requires a functional brain. Maybe when I retire I'll take it up again.

I think the increase in hospitalizations is mainly down to the proliferation of edibles.
