A truly fantastic guide on the process- not just on how to paint, but WHY you do it. Sometimes our hobbies and passions can start to become more habit than choice after a while, so I really appreciated the reminder that perfection isn’t the goal. Trying to make a total likeness can really take the fun out of it sometimes, and you can miss what is really appreciated in the work.
Also, the model is my dad! Hi Barry! Good job on having a face, I hope it wasn’t too itchy the whole time! Haha. Really though, I’m glad there’s much better portraits of you now than the ones I made when I was 7

I had to stop today and realize I need to copy your technique more and more to get away from trying to make my portraits look too perfect. It works as you describe how it is done. At 85 I am still learning……thanks for this new video!
