In this collaboration with Quinn Dunki from the Blondihacks channel, I show how to make a copper water tank with brass legs, and a closely-fitted lid. Quinn will use this as part of a steam plant she is building to power her recent steam engine project. Here’s the link to Quinn’s video that features this tank:

Looks more like a living room decoration or part of a fondue. Lovely looking and good skills, but I'd prefer to see something more fitting which would be perhaps a rectangular tank riveted together.
My inspirational hero, you have taught me so much through your videos. Thank you so much.
Hey you guys that’s great that two great crafters are working together we all can learn
always the same perfection. It is the calmness of your work that shows what a master you are.
What a fun project! I’ve been watching Quinn for a few years now and thoroughly enjoy her sense of humor. Very much respect for both of your skills. Thanks for sharing, especially tig welding copper. Fascinating!
Another great video. Very informative and nice camera work. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Dan
HVAC guy here, I figured you'd braze with silver solder!
My first visit here but not what I expected. I don't know of any hobbyist who can drop a couple of thousand at every challenge. I roll edges over a wood mandrel and anneal the copper (or brass) with each pass – just as Quinn would do – then continue with the next challenge. I did learn more about TIG welding copper though. This is on the professional level. Thanks for the effort anyway.
Hi Ron . Great video as always and fortuitously timed for me as well. I was making a tube structure like yours about a week ago ; however I made mine from.063 “ Silicon Bronze 655 . In my case I have to turn the edge outward instead of inward as on your project . I was getting a little bit of “lettuce leafing” on the edge even with turning it in multiple passes. I realize you do it on the cap portion, but after watching you I realized perhaps I need to stretch the flanged edge in the stretcher between passes ; or is there another solution to maintain a consistent edge?
I think it’s also worth noting I was attempting a 1” radius turn so perhaps that’s too extreme. Thanks again for all of your excellent content !
Really nice project 👌
Well done Looking forward to part 2
That was very satisfying to watch – 👀 Thanks Ron.
A video on welding copper would be great; even just covering what settings your TIG is on! Last I looked, there's just not much on welding copper out there.
Think I will just use an old bean can. Don't have the room for all that kit.
It's always fun to watch a master at work. Thank you for this video.
good job
good explanation
good voice
thank you
👍👍👍
3" 170 thousandths. That's a mouthful of a measurement I prefer 76.2mm
Beautiful tank
Learned something here with you "Welding" that copper tank. I have Silver Soldered copper many times but never welded it. Thank you for showing me how it can be done with a deoxidized rod and tig. Old Dogs can learn new tricks. Woof!! Great work building this tank and looking forward to see the finished tank.
Ron, aside from metal working, you're skill in fixturing is most admirable. I enjoy watching your work, and I can't wait for the next video.
Thank you from europe for the metric conversion !!!
There are a thousand and one channels that can tell you about tools and techniques, but what really comes across on this channel is the care, attention to detail, and willingness to put in the effort to get the quality just right.
I like to think that people just starting their career are watching this and learning an attitude that they might not pick up on-the-job but that will help them build things they are proud of
Ron it doesn't matter how long your videos are. You have a very easy manner and it is almost therapeutic watching your content. Look forward to part 2.
Watching a professional who actually uses PPE and keeps their hands away from the tools is just so refreshing
That's a cute teapot! 🙂
Interesting tool holder you used for the bottom plate champhers (18:28-ish). I have never seen an adjustable one like that, where you can twist the 'head' relative to the 'body'.
Simply amazing, and thank you!
Really beautiful Ron, amazing that this is a one-off.
This guy talks like a computer
Masterclass.
The 24KV service line only had 3 factories on it; a steel stamping plant, aluminum foundry and a porcelain products factory. Our big water cooled Lincoln TIG welders were 50 amp 480 volt 3 phase and as I remember ( I could be wrong ) Lex used a 3/16 rod for the heavy work. He tried to teach me some and I could do a little of my own welding work but as the head electrician I had a lot in my own departments concerns to cope with. It's been fun talking with you have a Merry Christmas
Do you weld copper with DC and argon shielding? I'm surprised it goes so well. I've been assuming it's at least as difficult to weld as aluminum!
Such a talent, between this and the This Old Tony video I'm hooked
I can see by your reply why you might not want my suggestion since you are welding sheet metal and we were welding three inch thick blocks of copper to each other. Thank you for giving me time to rethink the situation.
One of the greats they are a cut above yet humble and informative..a true master of his trade.
Ron is the mechanics professor we never had. In my school they "taught" us about using the lathe, welder, milling machine and other stuff, but it really was "okay so this in the picture is a lathe, it works like this and you can do this kinda stuff". I am one of the few that learned how to use a lathe cause I would often get bored, wander out of class and casually wind up in the workshop, so I just started to play with the machines till I learned my way on them. If we had a guy like Ron as our prof me and my classmates could've easly put together a 25 workers assembly line after graduation
Ron, I came here from the Blondihacks channel, and I'm glad I did. Very impressive work. If i can make one suggestion; I would be interested to know how your equipment was setup for some of these process. For example, what current etc did you use on the welder, feeds and speeds on your lathe. I would find that information VERY useful.
Thanks, des.
A true positive thinking master of craft. Hats down! Keep on!😉
