  1. As a local, I haven't worn a mask in a long time. The government declared that mask use would end on July 1 and that Covid would become an endemic disease. However, many private companies still ask for cooperation to wear a mask ( and Thai people are still very afraid of Covid-19 although everyone has received at least four doses of the vaccine ). anyway, you can go anywhere without masks it's okay now.

  2. Everything expensive in thailand and dollar is down too much, philippina and and malaysia is better than thailand. AND REALLY COLD THAILAND NOW. i visit for work but night time really cold and everything really expensive trash hotel's 2000 thb and more arsen you good man but thailand is not good

  3. Even during pre-CoVid , Central World/Siam Paragon areas have always been adorned with Christmas ornaments. Only this time, the “Jingle Bells” are more meaningful. Remember, this CoVid took away a reported 6.6 million (as of December 2022 per Worldometer) lives. Sad, but congratulations to us who have made it this far.
So yes, there will be planefulls of “Santa Claus is coming to town”. 😅

  4. Three months in Thailand, July – Oct. At least 85% of Thai's were wearing masks in general (Bangkok), and in places like shopping centres, trains, markets, hotels, even higher. Was still on the quiet side, however hotels prices were cheaper than 2019 and Aussie exchange rate better than 2019. As noted, now is a peak tourism period. Covid has meant permanent closure for some….and opportunity for others….cannabis! 🤣 That said, nothing changes….with a smile, a sense of adventure and a respect for the Thai's and their tradition, you will always get back way more than you give. Always. Thanks Arsen. 🙏

  5. Yes, some locals have stopped wearing masks due to the influence of foreigners. However, the percentage which has done this is still limited. It's only in downtown Bangkok, touristy island and resort areas and other areas with lots of foreigners around, where some locals have started to ditch the masks.

To cite some examples, this is the most up-to-date, latest situation:

Any main road in Bangkok and other larger towns and cities upcountry, mask wearing is at 90-98% even outdoors, though this reduces to 20-50% in nightlife areas at night, or even less in places like Patpong, beach road etc. where it's say 5-10%. Indoors: up to 99% at supermarkets and local malls which foreigners don't visit much. Government offices including immigration: nearly 100% mask wearing in most regions, except maybe Samui and Phuket, which have a lot of foreigners. Skytrain – 99% mask wearing among Thais. Varies among foreigners; overall, still 95%+. MBK mall – 50-60%. Paragon, about 70%. Central Embassy – similar. Central Bang Na – 90%. Mega Bang Na – 90-95%. Central Chiang Mai – 80%. Central Pattaya – 40-50%. Terminal 21 Pattaya – 70%. Any Lotus's supermarket – 99%. Any 7-11 away from tourist areas – 90-99%.

The southern countryside, particularly Muslim dominated regions in Ranong, Phang-Nga, Krabi, Phattalung and Songkhla – 10-15%. In urban areas, 50-70% outdoors, 90% indoors. Urban public schools – 100%, rural public schools – very few. International schools -varies, but generally 50/50 and declining.

Averaged out, I'd say mask wearing is at 75% outdoors and 90% indoors throughout the country. This is by far the highest percentage in SE Asia. All other neighboring countries, including Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam, have far lower rates of mask wearing.

  6. What's changed in Thailand? Recreational marijuana was legalized on June 9. Ask Amsterdam if brown cafes help their tourism. You mention the price of beer which, if I am correct, is available and legal in most/all countries. Thailand is one of the few countries where marijuana is legal. THAT IS THE MAJOR CHANGE!!!

  7. Wow, look at all those muzzles. Bangkok isn't the city of life, it's the city of zombies, LOL. Seriously, it's not healthy to be wearing a mask all day long, even outdoors for nearly 3 years now. Thailand was the first country in the world to adopt mass mask wearing (other than Wuhan, China) but it's also the last to continue sticking with the habit despite the mandate having been scrapped. Mask wearing in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China remains higher only because they haven't scrapped their mandates yet.
